School & Communities First! (Prop.13 Reform), Homelessness & Affordable Housing, Climate Change, and Voter Services were chosen as the local priorities for 2020-2021. These will be recommended to the Board and League members at the Annual Meeting for confirmation.

The League of Women Voters Berkeley Albany Emeryville held it’s all-member Program Planning meeting on Saturday, January 25 at the league office. The purpose of the meeting was to recommend both the programs to be sent to the National League which we wish to support on a national level, and the issues we wish to prioritize locally in the coming year.

Programs recommended to the National League under the framework and campaign “Making Democracy Work” were Redistricting, Voting Rights, Improving Elections, Campaign Finance/Money in Politics, and Climate Change. It came as a shock to most of the group that climate change was not already a priority for the National League.

Updates were given on the following local League priorities.

1. Homelessness & Affordable Housing – Charlotte Wheeler

2. Prop. 13 Reform Team – Pat Tostenson and Elise Mills

3. Climate Change Team – Diz Swift

4. Criminal Justice Team – Christine Wenrich

5. CivilTalk – Marybeth Falzareno

6  Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Task Force – Adena Ishii
