LWVBAE President Ishii Featured in Berkeleyside Story

Board of the League of Women Voters BAE 2018-19

President Adena Ishii  with most of the LWVBAE Board elected last May. Preston Jordan, Secretary: Elise Mills, Bonnie Bain, Ruby MacDonald, President: Adena Ishii, Moana Newman, and Treasurer: Emily Beckhusen. Several have left the Board since then: including Preston, and Moana Newman, so we are seeking new Board members.

A story in the Tues, Oct 23, edition of Berkeleyside is a wonderful portrait of our current President Adena Ishii. Headlined League of Women Voters’ first woman of color president marks a series of firsts.

Ishii is the first woman of color to be president of the League of Women Voters for Berkeley, Albany and Emeryville, which offers nonpartisan election resources and organizes candidate debates. At 28, she’s also the youngest person to hold the title.

Reporter does a fine job of covering Ishii’s difficult childhood and youth, caring for the household and her younger sister and father, after he was diagnosed with dementia and some of her many accomplishments.  She gives good coverage our Adena’s efforts to draw people of all backgrounds into the League and our work encouraging voter registration and providing voter information.

Please read this article and circulate it to others. It’s a great way to interest others in the League–and show off our energetic and able young president.
