Sheriff’s Oversight Board Alameda County District 5

Alameda County invites the community to provide feedback on the establishment of civilian Sheriff’s Oversight structure Monday, December 13th 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Register with eventbrite.

About this event

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors District 5 Community Engagement Meeting is for the establishment of a Community Sheriff’s Oversight Board and/or an Office of the Inspector General. This is happening because the US Justice Department had found conditions in the Alameda county jail, supervised by the Sheriff, violate constitutional rights. Gov. Newsom recently signed Assembly Bill 1185 authorizing a county to establish a Sheriff Oversight Board and an Inspector General.   Alameda County is seeking public input to help draft an ordinance to implement this law.

Please register with eventbrite. After you have registered, you will receive an email with meeting information once posted.

Please note that the meeting will be visual and audio recorded. Additionally, a survey will be coming out shortly. We look forward to receiving your input.

Translation services will be available for this meeting. Please follow the prompts during the registration process or email ACOversight@acgov.org to request translation services in your preferred language. Please note that due to limitations in Zoom, interpretation services will be accessed through the Zoom application on a desktop computer, smart phone, or tablet device (no dial-in option). Requests for this service must be received by 5pm on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact the District 5 Office at (510) 272-6695 or email Shahidah.Lacy@acgov.org. We look forward to your participation.
