Albany Policing CommissionThe Albany Policing Commission held their monthly meeting on November 16th, 2023, at 7:00 PM. The meeting began with its customary roll call and land acknowledgments, as well as a quick discussion about the Albany Police Department’s complaint policy and its history.

Trish Gomez, Police Administrative Specialist at the Albany Police Department, gave a presentation on the department’s crime data and informational resources. Gomez began with an introduction, before presenting to the audience the police department’s website, various features available to citizens on the website, and the updates planned to further improve the website. She highlighted the Crime Mapping page where the program Crime Graphics is, which makes crimes and police activity available for the public to see.

The Commission then discussed the qualifications and characteristics of a potential consultant for recommendation to the City Council. Commissioner Greg Downs voiced the importance of both being impartial and having the necessary experience.

The meeting concluded after a minute left open for public comment. The next meeting will be held on December 21st.
