LWV California – No Position on Prop 50 (Mid-cycle Redistricting)

For League of Women Voters of California’s recent statement on Prop 50, see: https://lwvc.org/prop50/ .

The League of Women Voters of Berkeley, Albany, and Emeryville (LWVBAE) is painfully aware of the campaign mailers related to Proposition 50 that misuse our statements, using them out of context, to communicate that the League of Women Voters of California is opposed to Proposition 50. We did not authorize the use of our name or quotes in those materials. Nor are we part of the campaign behind them.

The League is not supporting or opposing Proposition 50, the midcycle redistricting ballot proposal, and is remaining neutral in this rapidly shifting political landscape in which our words have been used to spread malinformation.  Any assertion to the contrary is categorically false. The mailers amount to disinformation and we have secured legal representation.

It’s time for the voters to decide. We will continue to prioritize nonpartisan, fact-based voter education and stand firmly against the misuse of our name as we fight authoritarianism alongside good government groups and partners.

We encourage folks to consult only official League publications—such as Vote411 or statements hosted on our websites—for timely and accurate information authored by us.

Disinformation threatens the democratic process, and LWVBAE remains committed to transparency, integrity, and empowering informed civic participation.
