A DISCUSSION WITH ENVIRONMENTALIST ANNIE LEONARD

Annie LeonardThe League of Women Voters of Berkeley, Albany & Emeryville (LWVBAE) is proud to announce that internationally recognized environmental leader Annie Leonard will be the featured speaker at its Environmental Concerns Speaker Series event on April 13 from 7:30–9:00 PM.

Leonard is widely known for her influential animated film ‘The Story of Stuff’ and her leadership as former Executive Director of Greenpeace USA. Her work has transformed how communities understand consumption, environmental responsibility, and systems change.

She is also the author of the newly released book ‘Protest’, published by Patagonia, which explores how peaceful activism has shaped societies across history—and why protecting the right to protest matters now more than ever. Her work includes collaborations with Jane Fonda, highlighting the power of civic engagement to advance environmental and social justice.

As part of this special event, LWVBAE will offer copies of Leonard’s new book Protest for purchase, with proceeds supporting the League’s work to empower voters and strengthen local democracy.
At a time when both our planet and our democracy are asking more of us, Annie Leonard reminds us that informed, collective action is not just possible—it is powerful. We are honored to bring her voice to our community.
