We would like to formally invite you to the California Association of Student Councils (CASC) Region 4 August Youth Public Forum, held via Zoom, 4:00–7:00 PM, on August 30th.
The primary purpose of this student-led public forum is to create a powerful platform for youth voices to engage directly with education leaders. CASC student leaders will moderate panel discussions with local elected representatives, focusing on three key issues currently impacting youth.
1. Vulnerable Student Populations – Lynn Mackey, Contra Costa office of Education, Superintendent and Hugo Torres, San Mateo Board of Education.
2. Career in Public Policy/Civic Engagement – Candace Anderson Contra Costa District 2 Supervisor and John Gioia Contra Costa District 1 Supervisor.
3. Mental Health – Maimona Afzal Berta Santa Clara Board of Education President and Cheryl Cook-Kallio Alameda Board of Education President.
Approximately 30–50 high school students from across Region 4 (Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco counties) will participate in this three-hour event. Students will engage with panelists through 1) structured debates, 2) panel sessions, and 3) present youth-written speeches. In preparation for this event, our team has conducted 1:1 interviews with the panelists to ensure the most engaging and relevant conversations. If you’d like to give a 1-2 minute presentation for the youth perspective on one of our 3 topic areas once they are finalized, please email claire.chin@casc.net for presentation guidelines/structure. Presentations are first come, first serve as there may not be enough time for all interested parties to present. However, all attendees will have an opportunity to speak, even if you aren’t presenting.
If you are interested, please email claire.chin@casc.net.
