The League of Women Voters of Eden Area (Hayward) is planning to hold a forum on Dark Money in Politics in March or April, 2014, including a talk by Ann Ravel, chair of the Federal Election Commission. The event is co-sponsored by CSU East Bay and the Associated Students Inc.
As reported in the LWV-Eden Area December 2013 VOTER, previous to Ms. Ravel’s appointment to the FEC, she was chair of the California Fair Political Practices Commission that just levied a $1 million fine, the largest in its history, against two political action committees for campaign-reporting violations. The FPPC also ordered two separate groups to pay the state’s general fund the amount of money donated to them during the 2012 election cycle by the groups that were fined; the Small Business Action committee was ordered to pay $11 million and the California Future Fund for Free Markets was ordered to pay $4 million.
Time and place for the event will be posted when they become available.
