 Mock Election 2010
 Voter Resources

Why should people vote, and why do so many choose not to do so?

The League of Women Voters provides many resources to aid voters as they work to make decisions about the issues and candidates they face on their ballots.

One of the best is SmartVoter.org. To use it, one enters the street address and zip code at which s/he is registered to vote.  The voter is then shown the contests appearing on his/her ballot, as well as the address of his/her polling place.  To see the contests Berkeley voters will face on November 2 (including all of the contests on your mock election ballot), click on the following link:

http://smartvoter.org/uvote4/uvote4.cgi?addr=2223+MARTIN+L+KING+JR+WAY&zip=94704

The page that appears in the newly opened browser window contains links to each of the contests listed on the ballot.  Following them will guide you to additional information about candidates and issues.

SmartVoter also provides a list of Frequently Asked Questions for voters.  There you'll find answers to common questions voters ask.

November Election Reading

Our local League (LWVBAE) is also hosting a public forum on the Pros and Cons of Measure R (a Green Vision for Berkeley's downtown) from 5-7 pm on October 5 at Berkeley City College, room 431. See our flyer (http://lwvbae.org/DAPForumFlyerNovember2010.pdf) for additional information. Read the official ballot information on Measure R at http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/ContentDisplay.aspx?id=57014

The Secretary of State's office also makes the November 2, 2010 Voter Information Guide available to all registered voters.

If you're interested in tracking the races that will determine control of the House and Senate in the next Congress, check the following two sites periodically between now and November 2:
